Freimarkt in Bremen

For almost 1000 years during the lost two week of October the “5th Bremer season” of the year will be celebrated. For 17 days the city on the river is turned upside down. Fpur million people are coming every year from far and wide to become intoxicated by the event of superlatives: no other funfair offers visitors so many attractions as the Bremer Freimarkt. About 50 fairground rides provide some tingling moments for young and old. Nowhere else such exciting celebrations took place as in the hanseatic city by the weser. Every year since 1035 the city celebrated these market rights and maintained one of the longest funfair traditions in Germany.

Atmosphere, fun and sensation

You want to turn the world upside down? Whirling through the air? Then let’s get into a roller coaster, ferries wheel or ghost train. Bremen Bürgerweide provides over 300 showmen on 100.000 square meters with their stalls and rides for entertainment. Who ever prefers a leisurely stroll, then best on Bremer marketplace. On the “little Freimarkt”, visitors will discover a feast for the senses. Deep-frying dough, hot almonds and spicy liquorices attract one to the lovely stalls built by old paragons. And when the bell rings to start a ride on a casrousel of nosttalgia, not only children’s eyes will light up. The way back to the beginnings of the “Freimarkt” leads us just arround the corner. Middel Ages begin between the historic walls of town hall and Liebfrauenkirche. In the market town of 1382, retailers offerd their goods – at open fires the blacksmiths, glassblowers and stonemasons demonstrated their crafts while jugglers and singers told about the beginnings.
